Joanne Cummings Ph. D., C. Psych
Joanne Cummings received her PhD in Clinical Developmental Psychology from York University and is a member of the College of Psychology of Ontario. Dr. Cummings has been involved in bullying prevention work since 1995, consulting to schools and community organizations to raise awareness about bullying and to create healthy social environments. Dr. Cummings is the Partnership Director of PREVNet (Promoting Relationships and Eliminating Violence), a New Initiative of the federally funded Networks of Centres of Excellence. The mission of PREVNet is to mobilize knowledge to reduce bullying and peer victimization throughout Canada. As a clinician, Dr. Cummings works with very young children (ages 0-6) and their parents at Blueballoon Health Services, where she is the Director of Clinical Training in Psychology. There is a thread that links Dr. Cummings' research, knowledge mobilization, and clinical work. It is her enduring interest in supporting the developing individual's capacity to engage in healthy relationships from infancy though adolescence to parenthood. Dr. Cummings' research has examined parenting in families experiencing women abuse and homelessness, and evaluated several parent-child psychotherapies and bullying interventions.
